AUDITION FOR MATILDA THE MUSICAL

The Who, Where and When of Auditioning

All candidates who want to be considered for the cast of MMT's production of Matilda the Musical will be required to audition with a prepared song, a cold reading, and will be required to participate in a dance call. Auditions are open to everyone 8 years and older and all roles are open to any ethnicity.

Auditions are held by appointment June 9, 10 and 11 at the Streetsville United Church located at

274 Queen St S., Mississauga

  • Audition slots are available by appointment in 5-minute time slots

    • Children's Audition Slots

      • Thursday, June 9 & Friday, June 10 - 7:00pm to 8:45​pm

      • Saturday, June 11 - 1:00pm to 2:45pm

    • Adult's Audition Slots (Age 14+)

      • Thursday, June 9 & Friday, June 10 - 8:45pm to 10:30pm

      • Saturday, June 11 - 2:45pm to 4:30pm

    • During their audition time slot each candidate will perform a memorized musical theatre song and will have the opportunity to perform a short reading from the show.  

  • All candidates are required to participate in a 45 minute dance call before or after their audition slot

    • Children's Dance Call​

      • Thursday, June 9 & Friday, June 10 - 8:00pm to 8:45​pm

      • Saturday, June 11 - 2:00pm to 2:45pm

    • Adult's Dance Call (Age 14+)

      • Thursday, June 9 & Friday, June 10 - 8:45pm to 9:30pm

      • Saturday, June 11 - 2:45pm to 3:30pm

The safety of our members and volunteers remains our first priority. With that in mind, the MMT board requires everyone auditioning to be double vaccinated against Covid-19.  

Please bring proof of vaccine status at time of registration for your audition.

MMT will follow all safety protocols, masking, social distancing as per Government restrictions at the time of auditions.  In an abundance of caution, and for the safety of everyone, we ask that you wear a mask at all times except during your audition time slot. 

What to expect at your Audition

  • Please arrive 10 minutes before your audition time (with a completed Audition Form if possible) to register, provide covid details, and allow yourself time to settle in and review your material.

    • We will be taking a quick photo at time of registration for casting purposes

  • During your audition slot you will perform a memorized musical theatre song and have the opportunity to perform a short reading from the show.

    • Song Requirements

      • Everyone will perform a memorized musical theatre song (not from Matilda) which should reflect your vocal range and showcase the part you are auditioning for

      • Please bring sheet music (preferably double-sided in a binder) in the correct key for the accompanist

      • We will accept a pre-recorded accompaniment track (CD or MP3); however working with the accompanist is preferred

    • Acting Requirements​

      • ​Everyone will have the opportunity to perform a short reading from the show

      • Acting sides will be available for you to review at registration or you can view them HERE

      • No memorization is necessary. Bring your best British accent!

  • You will also attend that day’s dance workshop before or after your audition slot, where the choreographer will teach you a dance routine.

    • Dance Call Requirements

      • Plan to attend the 45 minute group dance call time whether your audition is before or after the dance workshop

      • Please wear suitable clothes and shoes for movement and fun!  

Call Back Information: June 12th, 2022

 

  • Successful candidates for Principal roles will be notified Saturday evening, June 11 by email 

    • Please ensure you list an accurate email address on your audition form

  • At the Call Back Audition

    • Each candidate will perform a selected song from the show which will be reviewed at the callback.

      • Vocal selections from the show will be included in the email and are available HERE

    • Each candidate will participate in a selection of short scenes from the show

      • ​Acting sides will be available at the callback or you can view them HERE. Memorization is NOT necessary.

 

*Note:  Some roles may not require a callback, and are at the discretion of the Directorial Team

  • If you are offered a role you must become a member of Meadowvale Music Theatre and pay a membership fee

    • $40.00 single or $60.00 family

  • We require a firm commitment to the rehearsal schedule

    • Please list in detail any conflicts you are currently aware of on your audition form

  • We ask that every cast member assist us with other areas of the production. 

    • Please indicate on your audition form the areas of interest to you or your family members

Rehearsals 
 

Rehearsals will commence in mid September and continue until performance time. There will be a break in rehearsals over the holidays.
