AUDITION FOR SHREK JR

The Who, Where and When of Auditioning

​

All youth who want to be considered for the cast of MMT's production of Shrek Jr will be required to audition with a prepared song, a cold reading, and will be required to participate in a dance call. Auditions for all roles are open to youth aged 8-18. All roles are open to any ethnicity.

Auditions are held by appointment Saturday Dec 6th at the Streetsville United Church located at

274 Queen St S., Mississauga

​

  • ​​All candidates are required to participate in a group dance call before their audition slot

    • Morning: 9:30am - 10:30am

    • Afternoon: 1:15pm - 2:15pm

  • Audition slots are available by appointment in 5-minute time slots​​

    • Morning: 10:30am - 12:45pm

    • Afternoon: 2:15pm - 4:30pm​

What to expect at your Audition

​

  • Please arrive 10-15 minutes before your audition time (with a completed Audition Form if possible) to register and allow yourself time to settle in and review your material.

    • We will be taking a quick photo at time of registration for casting purposes

​

  • During your audition slot you will perform a musical theatre song and have the opportunity to perform a short reading from the show.

    • Song Requirements

      • Everyone will perform a portion of a song from the show accompanied by prerecorded tracks.

      • The song selections and tracks are available HERE for review.

      • Memorization is strongly suggested but not required, copies of the libretto will be available for you to review at registration.

    • Acting Requirements​

      • ​Everyone will have the opportunity to perform a short reading from the show

      • Acting sides will be available for you to review at registration or you can view them HERE

      • No memorization is necessary.

  • ​Everyone will also attend a dance workshop before their audition slot, where the choreographer will teach you a simple dance routine for you to perform. No experience is necessary.

    • Dance Call Requirements​​

      • Please attend the dance call that corresponds with your audition time slot.

        • If you are auditioning in the morning (10:30-12:45), your dance call is at 9:30AM.

        • If you are auditioning in the afternoon (2:15-4:30) your dance call is at 1:15PM 

      • Please wear comfortable clothes and shoes for movement and fun!

Call Back Information

​

  • Callbacks will be held Monday, Dec 8th at 7:00PM (if necessary)

    • Please ensure you list an accurate email address on your audition form so we can contact you in case of a callback. 

​

  • At the Call Back Audition

    • Each candidate will perform a selected song from the show which will be reviewed at the callback.

      • The song selections and tracks are available HERE for review.

    • Each candidate will participate in a selection of short scenes from the show

      • Acting sides will be available for you to review at registration or you can view them HERE

 

*Note:  Some roles may not require a callback, and are at the discretion of the Directorial Team

​Become a Member

If you are offered a role, you must become a member of Meadowvale Music Theatre Youth Company and pay a membership fee of $250.

  • The Youth Company Membership includes:​

    • Group Membership

    • Performance Fees

    • Costume Rental

Help Out

  • We ask that every cast member assist us with other areas of the production. 

    • Please indicate on your audition form the areas of interest to you or your family members

​Rehearse the Show

  • Rehearsals will commence March 1st and continue until performance time.

  • Rehearsals are scheduled:

    • Sundays 1:00 –5:00 beginning March 1st

    • Tuesdays 7:00 - 9:00 beginning May 5th at 

  • Rehearsals are held at Streetsville United Church 274 Queen St S., Mississauga​​

  • We require a firm commitment to the rehearsal schedule. Please list in detail any conflicts you are currently aware of on your audition form

 

Time to Perform!

Shrek Jr will run June 5th at 7:30pm and June 6th at 3:00pm & 7:30pm at Maja Prentice Theatre - 3650 Dixie Rd. Mississauga
