The History of Meadowvale Music Theatre
"The object will be to develop
and encourage interest
in all aspects of the theatre."
Meadowvale Music Theatre began as "Eden Plus", a corroboration
of several Church choirs coming together to celebrate the 160th Anniversary
of Eden United Church. This was in 1984 and the show presented was Gilbert
& Sullivan's "Trial By Jury." The group carried on in 1985
with "Pirates of Penzance" followed
in 1986 with "Patience." One final G. & S. was produced
in 1987, "H.M.S. Pinafore" at the Burnhamthorpe Library Theatre.
At a meeting that followed the show it was agreed that this would be the
last G. & S. show and M.M.T. would concentrate on more standard Broadway
Musicals. This led to the production of "Annie Get Your Gun"
at the Malton Community Centre in May 1988, a fitting tribute to Irving
Berlin who was born in May 1888 and whose 100th Anniversary was being
celebrated in 1988.
M.M.T. in it's original constitution stated that "The object will
be to develop and encourage interest in all aspects of the theatre. It
is understood that the organization shall be carried on without financial
gain to its members and that any profits shall be used in promoting its
objects. The entity Meadowvale Music Theatre shall endeavour to retain
its status as a registered non-profit organization."
